CURRENT TIME


After failing to secure a single gold medal in last year’s iteration of the competition, Compostela Valley State College finally snagged the coveted hardware courtesy of a scintillating performance by the live band during the second day of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) XI Regional Culture and Arts Competition.
Led by coach Jonell Palanas, the CVSC band rocked their rendition of Tayo na sa ComVal and Tayo’y mga Pinoy which captured the hearts of spectators and mesmerized the panel of judges. Members of the band were Juvy Jane Arado, Earl Lawrence Adante, Adam Gray Navarre, John Lloyd Plusan, Jenivie Lino, Kerr Jhon Generoso, and Alex Lagare.
Meanwhile, CVSC also bagged runner-up finishes in eight other events, highlighting the drastic improvement of the contingent from a year ago.
Among the silver medalists for individual and pair events were Given Mark Inansugan (Essay Writing), Jay Ann Habla (Poster Making), Jomarie Requiso (Pencil Drawing), Geber Mae Abarca (Vocal Solo Kundiman), and Ryan Suico and Jeveel Ganas (Vocal Duet).
Furthermore, the group events also ran off with 2nd place finishes. These were Short and Sweet Play composed of Kathryrine Valencia, Retchel Lada, Xyrell Fe Libres, and Ara Julz Abergas, and Chorale composed of Abarca, Vidalyn Torrentera, Meljade Maquilan, Karla Castillo, Rheamie Fuyonan, Jeremias Gallo, Arlon Batingal, Jeric Suguis, Bengie Rose Tomas, Jeriel Silagan, Nikki Lagare, Mary Joy Narandan, Gian Carl Potestas, Jonel Siarot, Jan Rey Mandag, Glydyl Gerodias, Cicile Chatto, Joemon Sibayan, Michael Tomales, and Romeo Almene Jr.
Indigenous Dance, with its members Rolando Bayo Jr., Miechelle An Caballes, Arc Jayson Manulat Jr., Rotchelle Butad, Helen Tabuso, Gia Dionaldo, Julios Dio Ian Rebucas, Jan Raye Rafols, Shaira Hacel Cañete, and Dianne Rose Garban, rounded out the medal haul with their 2nd runner-up ending.
College President Dr. Christie Jean V. Ganiera, who was present throughout the PASUC fest to show her unrivaled support, expressed her pride for the students and coaches who brought the honor of CVSC.
