College of Agriculture Acting Dean Jeson Geroche, MSc delivered a pleasant surprise after lording over the research poster presentation event during the 30th Southern Mindanao, Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (SMAARRDEC) Regional Symposium on Research and Development Highlights held at the Abreeza Mall Atrium, Davao City last August 23-25, 2017.
As a neophyte entrant in the SMAARRDEC, Geroche’s study “Antagonistic Potential of Microbial Isolates from Vermicompost” bested out 32 other entries from including four from established State Universities and Colleges (SUC’s) in the region, showing the College’s budding potential in the field of research, extension, and development (RED). The study also poses positive ripples as the Compostela Valley possesses a substantial Banana industry.
CVSC President Dr. Christie Jean V. Ganiera led the congratulatory remarks of Mr. Geroche’s achievement which she referred to as “proof that CVSC has the ability to stand toe to toe” with other institutions especially in the field of RED.
In an interview, the COA Dean expressed his surprise and pride of receiving the award and thanked the individuals who supported his journey. Furthermore, he also encouraged other researchers “to do quality research and extension on agriculture to improve the life of our dear farmers”.
