In its proactive approach towards Risk Reduction and Management, Compostela Valley State College conducted a one-day School-based Basic Incident Management Orientation and Earthquakeand Fire Drill Simulation last June 16, 2017 at the Administrative Building, CVSC-Main Campus, Compostela.
Supervised by Emilito Quijano of the Compostela Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) and in partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP), the highlight of the affair was the realistic simulation of the occurrence of an earthquake and fire where some employees were injured and trapped.
Meanwhile, the newly-created Incident Management Team headed by College President Dr. Christie Jean Ganiera served as the hub of the College’s response to the calamity’s repercussions during the said simulation and will be tasked to act accordingly in case of an actual disaster.
The three-part event, which was attended by the faculty and staff of the main campus, started with an Incident Management Orientation with emphasis on earthquake with Quijano and Janiño Fabian as the resource speakers, who both stressed the threat posed by the 10-kilometer fault line in Maparat, just about six kilometers away from the college.
Furthermore, members of the local BFP FO2 Ian Cruda, FO1 Arnold Damasco, and FO1 Grace Gonzales were also present to discuss Fire Safety, Prevention, and Fighting.
After the affair, Dr. Ganiera expressed her gratitude to the support of the MDRRMC, BFP, and PNP during the near-reality simulation and ensured that there will be additional partnership with the aforementioned agencies for future orientations and simulations.
