In its continued thrust towards equipping its employees with the latest shifts in institutional and academic paradigm, Compostela Valley State College conducted a Gender Sensitivity Training last April 5, 2017 at the Cocos Hotel, Compostela, ComVal.
Spearheaded by the Gender and Development Office and its head Mr. Jhonnel Villegas, the one-day activity aims to capacitate both the teaching and non-teaching personnel of the college about the importance of understanding the concept of gender, which has become a hot issue globally in recent years.
Meanwhile, in his opening remarks, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Roque N. Langcoy II emphasized that with the fast-changing world, keeping abreast with the shifting needs of the society is an indispensable obligation of the institution towards its stakeholders.
Furthermore, the activity included discussions about topics with speakers who have undergone numerous gender-related seminars and workshops, namely: Gender and Development: Concepts and Definitions by Ms. Mary Fil M. Bauyot, Msc.; Organizational Gender Analysis by Ms. Sadie D. Law-aw, MASOR; and Government Legislations for the Protection and Empowerment of Genders by Ms. Jeralyn H. Sacro, MSCrim.
Also adding vigor to the aforementioned seminar was the Open Forum which drew several inquiries from the participants with questions ranging from the Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) law, student-teacher interactions, and gender policies of the college.
