Compostela Valley State College’s College of Agriculture conducted its 1st Farmers’ Forum and Agriculture Day themed as “ComValleño Farmers: Striving for Food Security and Sustainability Amidst Climate Change” last February 15-17, 2017 at the school grounds.
Aimed at balancing environmental conservation and agricultural production while simultaneously exposing students to the challenges and current trends of their future profession, the aforementioned forum drew farmers, irrigators, and agriculturists from all the municipalities within the province.
Seminars during the Farmers’ Forum included Agriculture Production in relation to Climate Change with Dr. Jaime Anter from the Provincial Agriculture Office; Livestock and Poultry Management with Dr. Benjamin S. Reyno, DVM of the Provincial Veterinary Office; Climate Change and Pest Diseases Occurrence on Various Crops with Mr. Marlon Hueler from the Regional Crop Protection Center and Adaptation of Crop Production to Climate Change with Mr. Joedel Leliza from the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office XI.
Meanwhile, the Search for Mr. and Ms. Agriculture 2017 also became an instant highlight of the three-day affair as the finest students of the said college engaged in a tilt of beauty, talent, wit, and intellect. Furthermore, Jenisa Condiong was crowned as Ms. Agriculture while Sammy Barbarona was hailed as Mr. Agriculture.
Competitions in Agriculture Technical Events and Recreational and Parlor Games capped the final day of the activity.
